Fairy Garden DIY: Potted Succulent

Okay kids, I've got another fairy garden DIY for you today. This one is pretty easy (I'm getting all of the easy ones out the way frost before tackling the harder ones). Fairy Garden Succulent Planter, it's way too easy. You know if you have succulents in your yard how quickly they begin to reproduce. I simply found one of the tiniest tiny succulent out in the yard I could. If there are no tiny ones just stip the top off a larger succulent stip the lower leaves and plop it into a container of potting soil. Make sure to keep it constantly moist to encourage rooting of the cutting. 

Materials-

: thimble (or other small container

: succulent or other small plant 

: potting soil 

Directions-

1) find your succulent 

2) place it inside of the container

3) water

Fairy Garden DIY: Picture Frame

Fairy gardens are my favorite things to look at. Last year I did an article on fairy gardens that I saw at the garden centers. They were so fun. I have started to collect my own supplies and I will be doing a series on creating your own Fairy Garden! To start us off nice and easy here is how I made Fairy Garden picture frames that are made from plant tags.

The Great thing of using plant tags is that you never have to worry about the pictures turning bad since they are plastic. We all have these things that we have laying around and end up throwing them away. I don't know about you, but I think they look pretty good.

Garden Plan 2014

Hey Kids, this year is fun, we are redesigning the garden, and it's overdue. It was a large 12x12 garden. Which means that you have to walk through it, which compresses the soil and makes it hard (no oxygen, or water). Last year I wanted to break this big bed up into a couple smaller raised beds and viola we are doing it. I did a lot of research  on designs and found that the ideal width of a bed is 3-4' wide. This will give you plenty of space to reach the middle of the bed from all sides. Here is my board on all of my raised bed designs form Pinterest.

So here is my new design for the garden 2014.

Let me know what you think. I made the bed on the far right only 2 feet because I can only reach it from one side since it rests against the neighbors fence. Otherwise I think it is pretty good looking.

Fairy Gardens

I don't know about you, but I have have seen the sudden  rage for fairy gardens everywhere. Every garden center I step into has a dedicated section for these adorable little gardens. I have to admit that even I have a VERY small collection of fairy decor.


As I look around I find that these fairies live better than I do... I mean some of these fairies have cooler houses and more furniture than I do, not to mention is way cheaper than my furniture, seriously though!

Here are a couple of fairy gardens that are portable! What a great idea! This way you can move your faires where ever they are happiest.

My New Career Adveture

I know that it has been a long time since I have updated the blog. This past quarter threw me for a loop! I am now just getting back on tract! But I did get all A's in my classes! Yay for me. This quarter is so much easier than last (anything would be easier in comparison.). Its a good thing too. Why, you may ask. Because, i got a new job. Not just any new job! A new job at a garden center. It is a really awesome place too. I kinda float around, either at the register or in the green house. I like it this way, because I can still experience life in the greenhouse with the plants, but also with the customers. A good medium for me. Plus I get a discount! I like the sound of that. They have me working a lot here, I don't mind though. Since school isn't so hard, it gives me a chance to get some extra cash so that I can pay for the next couple of quarters. I also get the chance to rescue plants that would end up in the trash, bring them back to life, and plant them in my yard! Fun. So that is where I stand. I am actually writing this at school (shows you how much extra time I have), and all I can think about is going outside to be in my yard...I need to get pics before all the tulips are done blooming.

Garden plan 2010

I don't know about you, but I am extremely excited about this new year of veggies and flowers. After my recent internship on the 150 acre organic farm, I have looked into being more adventurous and trying some not-so-common home veggies. Everyone grows and harvests the traditional mix of vegetables and herbs; such as tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, zucchini, basil and the like. I on the other hand want to reach out into the plethora of vegetables and herbs that most home gardeners never get the chance to do.

Here is a list of what I will be growing in 2010;
Basil, Beets, Carrots, Turnips, Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Acorn and Butternut Squash, Tomatoes, Peppers, Oca (not to be confused with Okra), Lettuce, Radishes, Turnips, Garlic, Celeriac, Leeks, Calendula, Chamomile, Fennel, Cucumbers, Nasturtium, Cauliflower, Cilantro, Parsley, Swiss Chard, Kale, and Sun Flowers.

I quickly made a outline of what the garden will look like and we will hope that I got it right. I will go out later and make sure that I have all the measurement correct.
